Jewels

The steroid injections last week seemed to make a huge difference for a couple of days.  After that, Jewels started to show increased fatigue.  This is a little distressing to me.  I asked the oncologist if there was anything more that can be done for Jewels’s quality of life.  So we tried another steroid injection a few days ago.  This time she couldn’t get out of the back of the car when we took the drive to the oncologist; so I asked the nurse to come out to the car to administer the injection.  The nurse kept saying “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”  And that’s when I lost it and started to cry.  Then she said, “What’s important is that she knows she is loved.”

The steroid injection didn’t seem to make a huge difference this time.  Her leg and paw are still swollen.  But at least she isn’t coughing too excessively.  Even though it is very difficult for her to get up and get around, she still barks in demand if she need something, particularly if she needs us to help her to get up so she can go potty outside.  As much as she struggles to do this basic need, she still can do this on her own for now.  She cannot get up to greet us at the door anymore, instead she barks at us to come to her.  Of course we oblige her right away!  She cannot come up the steps to our bedroom at night, so I make sure she is comfortable downstairs where it is cooler anyway on her bed.  I usually give her a little extra tramadol at night to help her rest better.

Yesterday morning I came down to greet her and she was awake, bright eyed and waiting for breakfast.  When I was taking too long to get her food, she barked at me demanding that I get it to her quickly!  What a total princess.  I always felt she was a princess, but now she really acts like it when she barks orders at us to serve her!  But we don’t mind.

Now we’ve just got to cherish whatever time we’ve got left her.  Her time is short, so it’s important for me to be with her as much as I can.

A mysterious package arrived yesterday!  I have a feeling that I am going to be pretty busy in the next week or so . . .
